Distancia is a love letter to Puerto Rico and the diaspora.
Stories are important because they help us understand each other and the world around us. They serve as windows into people’s worlds—and exist as a glimpse into their perspectives and experience. The story of my people is one of loss and struggle but, above all else, one of resilience.
Based on Rima Brusi’s text “Entre La Bicha y La Pared”. This is the story of home, belonging, and Puerto Rico.

THE STORY
Growing up, I have always loved the stories of home and belonging and have always wanted to create a film that captured these stories visually.
For me, making this film has been a way of reconnecting with my roots and remembering where I come from—and why it matters so much to me now.
It is my hope that this film will inspire you to feel closer to home, wherever you may be.
